Is it late to apply for scholarships?
Yes, it’s May.
Is it too late?
Absolutely not.
There are still millions of dollars in scholarships available for high school students, college students, and even gap year or grad students. The trick is knowing where to look and how to stay organized—and that’s where I come in.
So…Why Are There Still Scholarships Available?
Because:
Some scholarships operate on rolling deadlines.
Many funders have May, June, and July deadlines that follow graduation season.
Organizations have leftover funds they need to award before their fiscal year ends.
Fewer students apply during this time, so your chances may actually increase!
Feeling Overwhelmed? I Get It.
Searching for scholarships in the middle of finals or post-graduation haze can feel... a little chaotic.
Yes, it’s cumbersome.
Yes, it can feel like a part-time job.
But I promise—it’s worth it.
Step 1: Quick Wins
Start with a Google search.
Yes. Really.
Try searching:
“Scholarships due May 2025”
“Last-minute scholarships for high school seniors”
“College scholarships summer 2025”
You’d be surprised how many new scholarships pop up that don’t even show up on the big-name platforms.
Step 2: Use My Favorite Scholarship Sites
Let the internet do some of the heavy lifting:
JLV College Counseling: Curated lists by month, major, and grade level.
Scholarship America: National scholarships and private funder opportunities.
TUN Scholarship Search
💡 Pro Tip: Make a profile on these sites. You’ll start getting custom scholarships sent to your inbox based on your interests, major, background, GPA, and more.
Step 3: Apply Smart
Click the link
Read the requirements carefully
Gather your materials (transcript, resume, recommendation letters, essays)
Apply with intention
🔁 And repeat.
Remember:
“The deadline is never really the deadline.”
Many scholarships are reviewed on a rolling basis or close before the posted date if they reach a maximum number of applicants. So apply early and often.
Step 4: Be Patient. Scholarship Wins Take Time.
Just because you don’t hear back immediately doesn’t mean you didn’t win. Scholarship committees are:
Reviewing hundreds of apps
Following internal calendars and budgets
Waiting to confirm eligibility and enrollment before releasing awards
So be patient, keep applying, and trust the process.
Some of my students don’t hear back until August or even September—and that money still counts.
