Grace in Motion: Celebrating International Dance Day + Dance Scholarships for May & June 2025

Happy International Dance Day to every dancer, choreographer, teacher, and parent who has ever felt the joy, discipline, and magic of movement.

As a former dancer and dance teacher—and now the proud mom of three dancing daughters—today holds a special place in my heart. Dance has shaped every part of who I am: my resilience, my creativity, and my work ethic. Whether it was performing under bright lights or teaching little ones how to plié, the lessons I learned in the studio continue to guide me.

And now, I get to help young dancers take their next step—not just on stage, but toward funding their futures. In honor of International Dance Day, I’ve curated a list of dance scholarships for high school and college dancers due in May and June 2025.

Let’s help these artists leap into the next chapter of their journey—debt-free.

💃🏽 Dance Scholarships Due in May & June 2025

1. YoungArts Dance Award
🗓 Deadline: May 10, 2025
💵 Amount: Up to $10,000
📌 For high school students (ages 15–18) demonstrating excellence in dance across multiple styles (ballet, modern, hip hop, jazz, etc.)

2. Against the Grain Artistic Scholarship
🗓 Deadline: May 31, 2025
💵 Amount: $1,000
📌 Open to Asian American students pursuing a degree in the performing or visual arts, including dance

3. National YoungArts Foundation Competition (Dance)
🗓 Deadline: May 15, 2025
💵 Amount: Varies (cash awards + prestigious recognition)
📌 For high school dancers with exceptional skill in choreography or performance

4. Black Alumni of Pratt Scholarship
🗓 Deadline: June 1, 2025
💵 Amount: Varies
📌 For Black students majoring in arts-related fields including dance

5. Live Mas Scholarship (Taco Bell Foundation)
🗓 Deadline: June 6, 2025
💵 Amount: $5,000–$25,000
📌 Open to all creative students (yes, including dancers!) who submit a video sharing their passion

6. SHAPE America Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship
🗓 Deadline: June 15, 2025
💵 Amount: $1,250–$1,750
📌 For students majoring in dance, physical education, or kinesiology

7. Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship (Arts Track)
🗓 Deadline: Early notification for summer 2025 launch
💵 Amount: Up to $55,000/year
📌 For high-achieving dancers needing financial assistance for college
