A House Fire Took Everything — Let’s Help My 4th Grade Student’s Family Rebuild
On Wednesday, June 4th, a normal school day turned into something unthinkable.
My class had just returned from a beautiful field trip to the zoo. We were laughing, tired, and full of animal facts when my phone rang. It was a call I’ll never forget. One of my 4th grade students and her family had lost everything in a devastating house fire.
Everything.
No clothes, no beds, no books, no toothbrushes, no photos. Gone in an instant.
This student is a sweet, smart, and quiet girl—the kind of child who always has a gentle smile, never complains, and brings kindness wherever she goes. She lives with her single mom and three younger brothers—just a first grader, second grader, and third grader. Four young children. One hardworking mother. And now, nothing left but each other.
Right now, they are in a temporary hotel shelter situation thanks to the Red Cross. But this isn’t enough. With just one week left in the school year, they’re trying to survive and stay strong in an overwhelming storm of loss.
I am asking—no, begging—for your help. Every penny, nickel, dime, and dollar raised will go directly to the family to help them get back on their feet. No middleman. No red tape. Just love in action.
If you’ve ever wondered how to make a real difference in someone’s life—this is the moment.

We have one week left of school—but a lifetime to show up for each other.
With gratitude and hope,
Miss Laverne
